HIV-1 p24抗原的測定是慢病毒定量的一種早已建立的方法。然而，傳統的p24酶聯免疫吸附試驗檢測293細胞在瞬時轉染過程中產生的病毒相關p24和游離p24。游離的p24在上清液中占總p24的很大一部分。因此，酶聯免疫吸附試驗通常高估慢病毒的數量。
